JoAnn Stewart, age 80, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday January 19th. Being the first of three daughters, JoAnn was born in Illinois in 1941 to Robert and Malida Stone. She was precocious and independent as a young lady, and struck out on her own at the age of 18. She went on to marry and eventually have 5 children. Later in life, circumstances led to her raising children on her own, but she always made it work. She also got a degree in electron microscopy, but chose a career in real estate instead. She was always active and liked to be on the move. Even in her later years she went for daily walks and enjoyed being outdoors. She lived out most of her life in Southern California, but maintained another residence in Mexico for more than a decade. She loved the people, culture, and environment there so much that it often seemed to be her primary residence. She was very social and loved meeting new people. Being a Christian, she attended church regularly and enjoyed teaching Sunday school and volunteering for various charitable organizations. She is survived by four of her children, Russ, Lori, Scott, and Mark, and 9 grandchildren, and loving sister Mary. Sadly, JoAnn was preceded in death by her son Bradly and younger sister Linda. A service will be held on the 17th of February at 1pm for friends and family to pay their respects. The service is to be held at Miller-Jones Mortuary at 26770 Murrieta Rd in Sun City CA.
