Born and raised in Minnesota, Jerry often shared fond memories of living in the Minneapolis suburb of Edina. From fishing and riding bikes until sundown as a boy, to cruising in his VW Bug as a teen, Jerry always appreciated growing up surrounded by the beauty of Minnesota.
Jerry met Gay Fredine in February of 1963. From the moment they met, Gay was his everything. They married in July of 1965 and together they welcomed three children. Jerry joined the management team at Kresge Stores where he opened many retail locations across the Midwest. In 1974 Jerry accepted a transfer that brought his family to Southern California where they finally planted roots. Jerry dedicated himself to a career in retail management for many years and his knack for business later led him to become a small business owner until he retired. Although he was an accomplished businessman, he was most proud of his family.
Jerry was an artist at heart. He enjoyed photography, oil painting, playing guitar and singing, and cooking. He was creative and adventurous with his art, gifting many pieces to family over the years. As his children grew, you could always find Jerry on the sidelines or in the stands of countless soccer games. He loved capturing moments in time and his camera was always ready to go. At family get togethers, you could always count on Jerry to sing and play his guitar. It was a passion he passed onto his children and grandchildren.
After retirement Jerry and Gay moved back to Minnesota where they hosted family vacations every summer. Those summers of fishing on Arbor Lake, and all the wonderful memories made there will be cherished by his children and grandchildren for years to come. His family will miss his wisdom, his sense of humor and the strength he provided by always being there for them.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gay, his daughter, Pam (John) and his son Michael (Keri). His legacy is passed on to his 7 grandchildren, Hailey Jacobson-Boggs (Matthew), Dallas Montgomery (Kennedy), Austin Montgomery, Katie Lyons, Benjamin Jacobson (Melody), Emily Miller (Andrew), Jessica Woodworth (Dillon), and two great-grandchildren, Alistair Miller and Weston Woodworth. Jerry is preceded in death by his mother and father, Vern and Juanita Jacobson, Brother, Mark Jacobson, son, Stephen Jacobson, and great-grandson, Leif Jacobson.
