Gail Patricia Fountain (Nee Dukes) was born on February 26, 1945 at the Morrisania Hospital in Bronx, New York. The third child of the late Ora Lee and William Dukes, Sr. She was preceded in death by her siblings William J. Dukes Jr., Lloyd C. Dukes, and Althea Evans.
Gail Patricia attended the New York public schools of the Bronx. PS 90BX, Jordon L. Mott (JHS 22), and William H. Taft High School.
She began her career in 1966 working with the New York City Human Resources Administration. She was the office manager for the Bureau of Auditing for 20 years.
That same year on October 20, Gail Patricia married Mac Arthur Fountain. Two years later on April 6, 1968, her only child, a son, Mark Anthony Fountain was born.
Gail Patricia and her family were part of the Teller Avenue Community in the Bronx which included: the Dukes, Christian, Griffith, Burrowes, Knox, Payne, Walker(s), Baulkman, Brown, Murphy, McCullough, Heyligher, Troutman, Durante, Anthony, and Zorne families. This community of families enjoyed good neighborly fellowship and some love/hate relationships. The surviving members of these families have stayed in communication throughout the years and mourn the passing of their family member, neighbor, and friend.
In 1987, Gail Patricia moved to Moreno Valley, California. On March 14, 1988, she began her new career with the San Bernardino County Probation Department’s Accounting Division as a Fiscal Clerk, processing child support payments, court fines etcetera. In 1995, she accepted an assignment with the District Attorney’s Office Child Support Division. Later on, she transferred to the main office in Loma Linda, California, continuing her diligent and much appreciated work until she retired in April 2009.
She received a commendation from the San Bernardino County Board of Directors formally acknowledging her 21 years of outstanding service.
Throughout the years, Gail Patricia was a friend to many coworkers and developed a huge network. She stay connected to many friends and family both in New York and California. She knew birthdates and anniversaries of many family and friends and regularly celebrated with them in person, by mail, by telephone, and even email. Gail Patricia never let her limitations deter her from living life. She was a truly loving and giving person to both family and friends. Gail Patricia was the glue that kept our family well connected. She will be missed by all who knew her and appreciated her efforts to be all she could be to so many. She was a great sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, in-law, cousin, and friend. A kind and gentle spirit, Gail Patricia moved to glory on November 25, 2019. Gail Patricia is survived by her husband, Mac Arthur; her son, Mark Fountain and his wife Evelyn; her 2 grandsons, Marcus and Michael Fountain; her sister, Ora Louise Freeman and her husband William; her brother, Alfred Dukes; her aunt, Frances Goodine; her step-mother, Ernestine Dukes; her bothers, Sayce, Gurney, Murat, and Sydgwick; her sisters, Judy and Theo. In addition, she leaves behind nephews, William J. Dukes lll (Lisa), Tyrone Dukes (Helen), Dr. Jason Dukes (Anzea), William H. Freeman (Krisean), Quinton Freeman (Kimberly), Derrek Evans (Claire), and Alfred L. Dukes, Jr.
