

in New Orleans. After high school she spent time visiting her grandmother, uncles, and cousins in Detroit, Michigan. She eventually moved to Michigan.
She retired in 1983 after working many years as a supervisor at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.
Frieda met the love of her life, Lucien Howard Smith, in 1952. The two got married in 1954. They raised two children, Gerald and Deirdre Smith. The couple bought a house near Marygrove College in Detroit where many family gatherings were celebrated.
In 1983 after retiring, Frieda and Lucien settled down to Sun City in Southern California. The couple enjoyed traveling abroad to French Polynesia, Canada, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska and explored other areas of the continental United States.
Frieda’s interest included interior decorating, fashion, cooking and supporting her family and friends in social and holiday events. She was also a fan of sports. She attended several Detroit Lions football games with family and friends. While visiting Her parents in Los Angeles during a Christmas holiday vacation she attended a Rose Bowl game with her father. She also enjoyed watching basketball and hockey.
Frieda Smith leaves to cherish her memory: her son Gerald L. Smith; her sisters Carole Carroll, Wanda Preuss, Diane Sinkovits; her grandchildren Carlos A. Smith, Gabriel Goodwin, Gerald L. Smith Jr.; 10-great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; several first cousins, nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and dear friends.
Preceding her in death are: her husband Lucien Howard Smith; her parents William and Isabel Kohlbatz; her baby sister Linda Kohlbatz; her daughter Deirdre Anne Goodwin; her grandson Corey L. Smith; several dear aunts, uncles and cousins; who are all, right now, welcoming her Home.
Frieda Smith was 89-years. Her extroverted and charismatic personality brought fun and joy to many. She led a long and full life and will be missed.
