Douglas Marvin Rose was born to the union of Rodney & Etta Mae Rose on June 3, 1944 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He grew up with 5 siblings and was raised by his mother after his father died when he was young. He loved to write short stories in his free time and was an avid sports fan. He also loved to play sports growing up. He enjoyed school and excelled in his studies as a child. Following his graduation from high school, he worked to help support his family, including his mother and sisters.
He was drafted into the US Air Force in August of 1966 and served in the Vietnam War. He served for 4 years and was honorably discharged in August of 1970. He settled in Oakland, CA after his military service. Following his discharge, he met his wife, Carolyn Lawyer Brown in December of 1970 and they were married on August 1, 1972. Together, they raised a total of 7 children. Douglas worked for the US Postal Service for 34 years following his military discharge and retired in 2004. [Douglas was baptized at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in San Jose 1996 and became an ordained deacon in 1998. He served the church faithfully in many capacities including Sunday School teacher, leader of the men’s ministry, and pastoral aide. He served not only in the local church but also at a regional and state level as well. He served at St. Paul until 2014, when he relocated to San Diego. There, he served at the Rock Church as a care counselor and provided marriage coaching and pre-marital counseling to a number of couples.]
Douglas was preceded in death by his father, Rodney Rose Sr., his mother, Etta Mae Rose and his sister, Carol Curry.
He leaves to mourn & celebrate his life his wife and partner of nearly 50 years Carolyn Rose; his children - Rhonda Robinson, Sterling Brown, Michael Brown, Kimberly Bland, Terence Rose, Monica Rose and Matthew Rose; his grandchildren - Qasheem Brown, Erica Bland, Kimberly
Marshall Easley, Samuel Bland, Ashley Gentry, Carolyn Bland, Donna Bland, Matthias Rose and Dyani Rose; and his great grand children - Jayden Easley, Jorden Easley, Jayda Easley, Aulani Carpenter, Zion Gentry and Jonee Easley; brothers - Rodney Rose and Robert Rose;
sisters - Paulette Miles and Maxine Dupree and a host of other nieces and nephews, family, friends, loved ones, and acquaintances.
