David Anthony Silva Sr. (77) passed away on Monday, November 18, 2019 at Kaiser, Fontana, CA. due to complications from cancer. David was born on December 1, 1941 in San Mateo, CA to Tony J. Silva and Elsie. David grew up in the Bay area in Half Moon Bay, Redwood City, and San Carlos. As a small child he found his love for gardening on grandfather’s land in Half Moon Bay. He attended Carlmont then Sequoia High in the 50s sporting his pink leather jacket, before going into the Navy at age 17. Dave served 4 years in the Navy as a Boilerman Technician on the USS WASP. He was stationed on the East Coast and served during the Cuban Missile Crises, leaving the Navy as a Petty Officer 3rd Class. Dave has always been proud of his service and is currently a member of the American Legion Post #0229. He enjoyed attending WASP reunions with his brotherhood. David met and married the love of his life, Rosella (Sally) Shepherd on June 6, 1964, in Watertown, SD. They were introduced through their siblings when Dave was home on leave. Dave and Sally lived in Redwood City for a short time before moving to Fremont, Ca. where they lived for over 38 years and raised a family. Dave played baseball and coached his son’s little league teams for 4 years. Dave worked for Clayton Manufacturing for 32 years before becoming a maintenance supervisor for 16 years with the Fremont Unified School District, retiring in 2000. During this time Dave received his diploma and furthered his education at Ohlone College. In 2004 they moved to Victorville in Southern CA to be closer to their beloved grandchildren, where they now reside. Dave continued to enjoy gardening, traveling, and watching old movies. Together, Dave and Sally had 2 children, Katherine Mary Silva-Henson (spouse Toby Henson) and David Anthony Silva Jr. He has 2 adored granddaughters, Lauren Mae Henson (17) and Sarah Jean Henson (14), who reside in Upland CA with their parents. Dave cherished babysitting his grandchildren when they were young and attending their numerous events and activities over the years. He is survived by his older sister, Shirley Shepherd and younger brother Ron Silva (spouse Loretta). He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Joyce (Silva) Park. Dave will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His memory will live on with everyone that he loved and took the time to share his treasured memories.
