Peacefully, surrounded by family, Charlie Gilbert Sawyer, 88, passed away on December 11, 2019 at his residence in Menifee, California. Charlie was born on December 18, 1930, in Elk City, Oklahoma, to his late parents Dempsey Sawyer and May Justice Sawyer.
On December 7, 1949 Charlie joined the United States Navy, where he served for the Korean War and was honorably discharged on November 9, 1953. Shortly after he joined the military Charlie married the love of his life Joyce Dean (Edwards) Sawyer, whom he was married to for sixty seven beautiful years. Charlie was a strong, hardworking, amazing wonderful man. He had a green thumb and really enjoyed working in his yard. His yard always had a variety of flowers including a large rose garden. He also enjoyed meeting with his friends for coffee, watching football, boxing, playing dominos and card games with his family.
He was a knowledgeable man who never settled for less. Charlie worked hard to give his family a good life. He owned several businesses, including two garages, service stations, and part stores. He was an ambitious man who yearned to excel and refused to give up.
Charlie was survived by his lovely wife Joyce, his children; Evelyn (Nelson) Manville, Robert Sawyer (Leticia), three beautiful grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was an amazing husband, father and grandfather and will be truly missed.
Charlie was preceded by his parents, brothers, Cornelius, Melvin, Donald and his sisters, Lou Robinson, Doris Morgan and Donna Carol Sawyer.
