Carolyn Frances Ashley peacefully passed away in her Buena Vista Assisted Living home, at the age of 88 on March 15, 2021, in Hemet, California. She was born October 5, 1932 in Riverside, California, to her parents Robin Vernon Cox and Margaret Elnora (Zibler) Cox.
Carolyn was a long-time resident of Hemet graduating from Hemet High School in 1950. She attended Chaffee College for one year then was married on June 6, 1952 to the love of her life, Ronald Remsburg Ashley (Ronnie). They had three children: Diana, Cheryl, and Robert. She loved being a wife, mother, and homemaker. When her children left home, she worked over 25 years at the Ramona Pageant ticket office adding to her 25 years of volunteer work there. For recreation, Carolyn loved jeeping, swimming, bike riding and walking. Her hobbies included reading, sewing, gardening, bowling, shuffleboard, working puzzles, and playing card games and board games, especially Scrabble. She became a widow when Ronnie passed away in 2015. They were married 63 years.
Carolyn was a member of Cornerstone First Baptist Church for 67 years. She was a soloist and sang in the choir from 1954 to 2008. Carolyn was also known for her dedication to prayer and for her Bible study and Deaconess leadership.
In her own words, “The things I enjoyed in life are my wonderful husband, raising three great kids, my grandchildren (super kids, all of them); choir, camping, traveling, reading, and P.E.O. (a sisterhood dedicated to furthering women’s education). I praise God for the wonderful teachers of the Word in my church. My life was a joy. I learned that, to have real joy in one’s life, you must keep your priorities straight. J.O.Y. means, Jesus, Others, then Yourself. I wish to be remembered as one who loved The Lord and whose greatest wish was to be a testimony of Christ’s love and plant the seeds that would lead others to salvation; and that all my grandchildren and great grandchildren will have a personal relationship with Jesus.”
Carolyn is survived by her loving children, Diana Murray and her husband Ron, Cheri Steffen, and Robert Ashley and his wife Jenny; her 8 grandchildren; her 13 great-grandchildren; her 2 great-great grandchildren; and her sister Marilyn Archer and her husband Don.
Interment will be held at San Jacinto Valley Cemetery, San Jacinto, California.
