Betty had a precocious childhood, learning to cook and clean at an early age when her mother fell sick and her father had passed on. She was curious and head strong, picking up on the importance of responsibility and hard work. She was an avid reader and loved to learn.
Betty went on to graduate from Lovejoy High School as the class valedictorian and attend college at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville graduating in 1969 with a Registered Nurse degree. She worked in the nursing field until retirement. Betty married and had two children, Caprené Hardy (Adolphus) and Monte Dunlap (Tanya) and later divorced. She later had another child, Talandia Kachelmeier (John). She moved to Los Angeles, CA in 1975 and finally settled in Sunnymead (now Moreno Valley), CA 1976. She was known for her long hours at work at Riverside General Hospital and famous for her sweet potato pies. She had a green thumb and had a passion for sewing. She had a great many other interests: painting, latch hook rug making, jewelry making, macramé, and travel to name a few.
Upon retirement Betty lived for a while with her daughter Talandia in Fallbrook, CA and finally settled into Perris, CA with her son Monte. She left us peacefully on April 2, 2020. She leaves behind to mourn her passing her three children, six grandsons, 5 great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
And, yes, she will be “22 her next birthday!”
