Jack Weil

Jack Weil was born August 22, 1921 in Frankfort, Germany, the youngest of three sons, of Berthold and Selma (Rosenthal) Weil. He spent time studying in England, and was an interior design apprentice. He worked in some of the finest houses, castles and palaces in England, and developed a passion for design that he pursued throughout his successful business career. His parents escaped Germany, and joined Jack in London before they immigrated to the United States in 1940. A year later, at the age of 21, Jack joined the U.S. Army, and served in World War II.

Jack returned from the war to start Indecor and later Tana-Tex, two Chicago-based window covering and cubicle curtain companies that have thrived for over 60 years. He invented, patented and manufactured one of the company’s signature products.

In 1974, Jack met Marilyn Shaw on a ski vacation in Utah. They married later that year, and spent 37 joyous years together enjoying sports, the arts, and international travel. Soon after their marriage they purchased a home on Spider Lake where they initially spent summers, and later became year-round residents for the final years of their lives.

Jack was an avid reader, who enjoyed a wide range of topics including economics, politics and history. A life-long volunteer, Jack helped hospice patients through the end of their lives, delivered food through the Meals-on-Wheels program, and was an active member of the Spider Chain of Lakes Association.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marilyn who died earlier this year, and his son Brian who died in 1996.

He is survived by his children from a previous marriage, Nina, Ken (Tamara) and Dan; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter; and numerous relatives who reside in Israel.

A Memorial Service for Jack will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 26, 2012, at the Anderson-Nathan-Koerpel Funeral Home in Hayward.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Northwoods Humane Society and the Regional Hospice Services.
