Eric “Doc” Swanson was born November 20, 1965 in Aurora, IL the son of Peter and Lyn (Davey) Swanson. Eric was raised in Batavia, IL until his family moved to Bemidji, MN. He graduated from high school in Bemidji and then attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth where he received a degree in Pre-Veterinary Medicine. He continued his education at University of Minnesota in St. Paul, MN where he earned his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. After graduation Eric worked for a short time in veterinary clinics in Bloomer, Glenwood City and New Richmond, WI before settling in Hayward, WI. On February 14, 1998 Eric was united in marriage to Jacqueline Anna Thompson in Hayward. Eric and Jackie moved to Cable, WI where he started Cable Area Veterinary Clinic where he treated small animals. While working Eric continued his training and studies of animal health and became certified in fish health, animal chiropractic and canine reproduction specialist. Eric was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt, fish and trap. He was a member of the Cable Rod and Gun Club, Cable Chamber of Commerce and Cable Lions Club where he was a past president. He also enjoyed volunteering as a Boy Scout leader, a Hunter Safety Instructor and teaching anatomy at local schools. Eric was a very intelligent individual and a gifted surgeon. Eric and Jackie started raising and breeding Brittany Spaniels with their kennel name of Dr. Jac in 2006.
Eric is survived by his wife, Jackie; children, Thomas Swanson and Hannah Swanson of Cable; step-daughter, Christina Newby of Stevens Point, WI; mother, Lyn Swanson; brother, John Swanson of Waconia, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and father, Peter Swanson.
