Dorothy Wilma Kumpula was born on July 16, 1924 in Negaunee, Michigan, the daughter of Henry and Olga (Jouppi) Kumpula. After graduating from Ishpeming High School, she worked as a machinist during World War II in Detroit, MI where she met her future husband Robert Swanson. Dorothy is survived by her five children, Robert R. Swanson Jr. of Carlsbad, NM, John W. (Linda) Swanson of Hayward, WI, Rolf R. Swanson of Marquette, MI, Donald E. (Mary) Swanson of Green Bay, WI, and Anne Marie (Brett) Danielson of Hayward, WI; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and one sister, Leona (Gordon) Carlson of Negaunee, MI.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; one brother, Vernon Kumpula; one son, Rollin Swanson; and two great grandsons Dane and Drew Schlapper.
