Bruce Gilbert Meyers was born February 11, 1935 in Cleveland, OH the son of Joseph and Helene (Guilbert) Meyers. Bruce graduated from high school in Shaker Heights, OH and attended Kent State University in Ohio in the School of Journalism. After graduating Bruce worked for a small newspaper and then as an editor for a inter company news bulletin. Bruce returned to Kent State University and received his Masters in Business Administration. He earned his Doctorate of Business Administration at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Bruce’s last teaching position was with the business school at Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. He continued teaching business management classes including a creative problem solving class he developed himself. On December 17, 1960 Bruce was joined in marriage to Carol Ann Sykora in Burton, OH. While teaching Bruce became a fan of soccer and enjoyed being a timekeeper for the soccer games at the University. In 1997 Bruce retired from teaching and moved to Hayward, WI where he served on the volunteer Fire Department. He also volunteered his time with the HAYSO Soccer Program by teaching officiating and the Hayward Senior Center teaching members to use a computer. He was active in the Chequamegon Lions, the Sawyer County Lakes Forum and the Clear Lake Property Owners Association. A recent project was work with the Weiss Library in digitizing The Sawyer County Record archives for genealogy research. His family will remember Bruce for his support in any of their endeavors and his willingness to listen to their ideas and points of view.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol; three children, Jonathan (Catherine) of Webster Groves, MO, Amy (John) Applin of Bloomfield Township, MI, Sara (Mark) Stauffer of Minneapolis, MN; eight grandchildren, Samuel, Jackson, Alexander, Mariah, Alia, Kristen, Erin and John; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A service celebrating Bruce’s life will be held in the spring.
