Thelma Jones, M.D., 79, Scarsdale, NY. passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 24, 2017 at White Plains Hospital where she was on staff since 1973. She is survived by her daughters, Amy and Michelle Sack, their father, Joshua Sack, grandson Jack Blasbalg and many close friends.
Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, she was predeceased her parents Jack and Etta Jones and siblings Carole and Herbert Jones. She was a long time resident of Scarsdale, New York.
Dr. Thelma Jones graduated in 1955 as Valedictorian of the Bronx High School of Science. She went on to graduate cum laude from both Barnard College (’59) and SUNY Downstate Medical Center, where she was one of only three females in her graduating class in 1963.
She had a private practice in Internal Medicine and Hematology in Scarsdale for thirty years. She later had a private practice in integrative medicine, also in Scarsdale and was passionate about a holistic approach to patient care. She had hospital appointments at While Plains Hospital, where she served as Chief of Hematology for eight years, Montefiore Hospital and St. Agnes. She served as the past President of the Central Westchester American Cancer Society and was on the Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society among many other honors.
She enjoyed swimming, playing the piano and was a lifelong learner. She was known for her loyalty and generosity. She had many close lifelong friends and was beloved by her patients. Of primary importance was her family to whom she dedicated much time and love.
A funeral service was held Monday, March 27th at Riverside Memorial Chapel with a private burial. Contributions in memory of Dr. Thelma Jones may be made to the White Plains Hospital Foundation.
