Ann Dreizen Bress died Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel, NY. She was 97. She was a resident of the Putnam Ridge Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Brewster, NY since October 2010. Mrs. Bress was born in New Rochelle, NY on June 21, 1915 to Bessie (Markman) and Nathan Dreizen. She grew up in New Rochelle and graduated from New Rochelle High School. She was the loving and devoted wife of Abram H. Bress, who died in 2003. They were married on November 1, 1936 in New York City. In 1950, they opened the Heathcote Toy and Party Shop in Scarsdale, NY and were in business together for 43 years. Mrs. Bress was a successful and popular business woman, sought out by her customers for advice and conversation. In 1955, Mr. and Mrs. Bress and their family moved to Eastchester, NY, where they resided for many years. Mrs. Bress and her husband moved to Yorktown Heights, NY upon retirement. Mrs. Bress and her husband were longtime members of Beth El Synagogue in New Rochelle and later members of Temple Beth Shalom, Mahopac, NY. Mrs. Bress will be remembered for her loving devotion to her family, her strong and outgoing personality, her acute business sense, and her exceptional and remarkable abilities in so many areas.
She was predeceased by her sister, Florence Dreizen Goldman and brothers, Dr. Abraham E. Dreizen and Dr. Cellock B. Dreizen. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Charles Fleischman of Milford, CT; daughter and son-in-law, Drs. Linda and Alvin Silbert of Mahopac, NY; granddaughter, Beth (Fleischman)Zweibel of Avon, CT; granddaughter and husband, Ellen (Fleischman)Litsky and Mark Litsky of Wappingers Falls, NY; grandson, Brian Silbert of Los Angeles, CA; granddaughter and husband, Dr. Cheryl (Silbert) and Theodore Schnitzer of Sharon, MA and great-grandchildren, Zachary Zweibel, Joshua Zweibel, Henry Litsky, Marla Litsky, Daniel Schnitzer and Robert Schnitzer.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. at the Riverside Memorial Chapel, 21 West Broad St., Mount Vernon, NY with interment to follow at Riversville Cemetery, Memory Lane, Glenville, CT 06831. A period of mourning will be held at the Silbert residence in Mahopac, NY and at the Fleischman residence in Milford, CT.
