Travis Lee Holtzclaw

Services celebrating the life of Travis Lee Holtzclaw will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 20, 2023 at Central Assembly of God with Reverend Leonard Lindsey and Pastor Jeff Gravis officiating. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home.

Travis was born on February 4, 1932 in Downsville, LA. After school, he enlisted in the Navy and served his country proudly for 4 years, participating in the Korean War. After returning to his home in Ruston, he enrolled at Louisiana Tech University. After a short stint at college, he left to pursue a career in barbering. He was a lifelong entrepreneur buying and selling properties. Along with owning the neighborhood barbershop, he purchased the adjacent laundromat and managed them both for years. He continued to do haircuts for friends and family in the years to come. In 1981, he went to work for General Motors and retired after 12 years of service. He loved woodworking and gardening. He helped build their family home in Greenwood and also loved making special furniture pieces for family and friends. He was an exceptional man, who lived his Christian faith, a husband of 66 years, a loving father and grandfather, who served his country and leaves behind an honorable legacy. He was “old school” in the best sense, a member of the silent generation. Born in tough times, they didn’t complain. They did what needed to be done and thought little of it. They built families. A handshake was more solid than any contract. Travis was a godly man; he loved his Lord and Savior and shared this love with each of his grandchildren who affectionately called him “Papaw”. He served his local church in various leadership roles such as deacon and Sunday School Superintendent throughout his adult life. Serving his Lord was a joy to him and he inspired us all to love Him as well!

Travis was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Leady Holtzclaw; siblings, Fern Ivy, Vollie Cook, Rozena Murphy, Mark Holtzclaw, Pete Holtzclaw and Lunell Duke.

Travis is survived by his loving wife, Norbalene Holtzclaw; son, Lee Holtzclaw and wife Susan; daughters, Teresa Flake and husband Larry and Janet Roberts and husband Mike; grandchildren, LeAnna Bailey and husband Chase, Chelsea Boswell and husband Ben, Lauren Flake, Kristen Flake, Jordyn Josey and husband Caleb, Daniel Veuleman, Jennifer King and husband Brad; great grandchildren, Grayson Bailey, Gabriella Ball and Beckett King; and sister, Jean Futrell and husband Barlow, a special sister-in-law, Janet Sue Heslep and husband, Harold, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Chase Bailey, Ben Boswell, Caleb Josey, Daniel Veuleman, Brad King, Chris Benge, Chess Hutchings, Scotty Futrell and Kevin Duke.

The family would like to thank the staff at Old Brownlee Community Care Center for the wonderful care they have provided, the staff at St. Joseph Hospice, especially the loving care of nurse Carol Cason along with the church staff and family at Central Assembly of God Church in Haughton.
