When you think of Shirley Mae, several words come to mind. Beautiful, loving, kind, caring, charismatic, and easy going. You could go on and on, but the one word that comes to mind more than any other is “Giving”.
Shirley Mae gave her life to the ones she so deeply loved. She gave her life to the Lord, her husband of 60 years, her 5 children, 15 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. She fell in love with her husband at first sight and they were married within four weeks of meeting each other. He was the love of her life; as she made sure to let everyone know that Bill was her turtledove.
Shirley’s hugs felt like home. She taught her grandchildren about Jesus, the love of reading books, how to be kind to others, how to respect your elders, and to NEVER sass (with a little help of some dawn dishwashing liquid).
When you look up the definition of a giver, it states, “a person who gives something”. Shirley gave us all of her time and most importantly, she gave us her love.
Survivors include 5 children: David Adams, Dianna Adams Chaney and husband Randy, Deborah Adams Taylor, Daniel Adams and wife Phyllis, Deloris Adams Gilbert and husband Steve; 15 grandchildren: Jennifer, Brandy, Michael, Angela, Lacey, Misty, Randy, Daniel, Whitney, Sara, Zachary, Emily, Harley, Breanna, and Kassidy and 23 great-grandchildren.
Shirley Mae was preceded in death by her husband William S. Adams, “Bill”, her parents and her siblings except for her youngest brother, Marvin.
Shirley’s life of 85 years was not focused on herself, money or getting ahead, but on Jesus and her family. Her legacy will be her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and in the end, that’s all that really matters in this life here on earth.
-We love you more than rainbows, butterflies and a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck. We will miss you every single day until we meet again.
A visitation for Shirley will be held Tuesday, August 29, 2023 from 10:00 AM until time of Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, 601 Hwy 80, Haughton, Louisiana 71037. Interment will immediately follow on the grounds of Hill Crest Memorial Park, Haughton, Louisiana 71037.
