Ron proudly served in the Air Force for 20 years, where he excelled as a pilot and was a Vietnam veteran, ultimately achieving the rank of Major before retiring. He had a deep sense of patriotism and found joy in recounting his personal experiences in the service. Ron was also a dedicated teacher and coach at Plain Dealing and Byrd High School, where he left a lasting impact on his students.
An active member of Benton Methodist Church, Ron found solace and strength in his faith community. He devoted his time and energy to his church, and his unwavering commitment to his Christian values was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Ron earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from Purdue University and a Masters of Arts Degree from Central Michigan University. He proudly embraced his status as a "Boilermaker" and remained a loyal supporter of Purdue's football and basketball teams. In addition, he had a passion for sports and was an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints and the Chicago Cubs.
Ron was preceded in death by his son, Scott Jones, his parents, Nelson and Gertrude Jones and his brother-in-law, Bill DeVine. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Geneva Jones, his sister Sharon DeVine, his son Kenny Jones, his daughter Melissa Stewart and husband Daniel Stewart, and his grandchildren Ashley Seymour (Cayne Seymour), Erica Andrews (David Andrews), Tyland Stewart, Kristopher Toth, Malachi Jones, and Isaiah Jones. He also leaves behind his nieces Shelli DeVine, Kelly DeVine Holloway, and Tammy DeVine Hampton, as well as his nephew Bill DeVine.
Services to celebrate Ron's life will be held at Benton Methodist Church, 4615 Palmetto Road, Benton LA 71006 on Saturday, January 6th at 11am to honor his memory and the impact he made on the lives of those around him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made to Benton Methodist Church or a charity of your choice in Ron's honor.
Ron was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and teacher, and his unwavering faith, dedication to service, and love for his family and community will be cherished and remembered by all whose lives he touched.
