Born in Albany, NY, Bob was the third-born son of Mary (Molitor) and Farrell Callahan.
He graduated from Vincentian Institute in 1944, where he was active in track. He later served in the NYS National Guard as a First Lieutenant in the 14th Armored Cavalry, Third Battalion, stationed in Germany during the Cold War.
Bob's field was mathematics, which led to his employment for 43 years with the NYS Insurance Department retiring as Chief Life Actuary for New York State. He was also a member of the Society of Actuaries.
As a former parishioner of St. Teresa of Avila and Mater Christi parishes, Bob was involved in many church-related activities and organizations. Whether it be lectoring on a Sunday, golfing with the Knights of Columbus, or bowling with the Church league, Bob’s many activities were centered on his faith.
He was an exceedingly generous man who was dedicated to his family and will be missed.
Bob is survived by his son, Robert F. (Dixie) Callahan, and daughter, Maureen A. Callahan, as well as grandchildren Nicole, Alexandra, Alexander, Hunter, and two great-grandchildren, Violet and Owen. Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary, and his two brothers, Donald, and Jack.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to employees at Atria (Slingerlands), Our Lady of Mercy Life Center, and The Blake at Bossier City for accompanying Bob on his final journey back to Christ.
Much appreciated contributions in Robert's name may be made to Capital City Rescue Mission through their website, https://capitalcityrescuemission.org/.
