Richard (Dick) Krug, 76, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 23, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.
Richard (Dick) Krug was born March 20, 1937, in Nashville, Kansas to Edwin (Dick) and Gladys Krug.
Richard (Dick) Krug grew up working on a wheat farm, located near Isabel, Kansas. He spent his teen years in the Isabel community attending Isabel school all twelve years, graduating in 1955. Richard was active in sports, lettering four years in baseball, basketball and track. He was an excellent basketball player setting numerous school records in scoring.
Upon graduation, Richard attended Pratt Junior College for a year while working part time at Shafer Plow Co., Nebraska. He returned to Pratt, Kansas, in the fall of 1956 and worked for the Kansas Highway Department until his enlistment into the US Air Force on November 7, 1958. His military assignments included Texas, Illinois, Okinawa, Germany (2 tours), Colorado, Thailand, Oklahoma, Great Britain and Louisiana. He retired from Barksdale 8th Air Force Logistics as a Chief Master Sergeant on January 1, 1987, after 28 years of service and attained the highest enlisted rank possible.
While stationed in Germany, Richard (Dick) Krug met and married Roswitha Wahl in 1963 in the Christ Church Cathedral in Mainz, Germany. They had happily celebrated their 50th year together on December 21, at Methodist Hospice House in the company of many family and friends. Richard (Dick) Krug was a member of The American Legion, Air Force Association, Chief Chat, Veteran’s Association, and The International Order of Odd Fellow of Pratt, Kansas. He was an avid sports fan, attending many Memphis Tiger home games and he enjoyed spending time on the computer staying in touch with friends and playing solitaire.
Richard (Dick) Krug was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother. He is survived by his spouse, Roswitha Krug of Bartlett; daughters, Zabrina Horn, of Shreveport, Louisiana and Tanya Plott of Busan, South Korea; granddaughter, Arielle Plott, and grandson, Caleb Plott of Busan, South Korea; granddaughter, Crysta Lyles, great-granddaughter, Adelynn Lyles and grandson, Christopher Arbogast of Plain Dealing, Louisiana; great-granddaughter, Clarissa Arbogast of Benton, Louisiana and great-grandson, Gavin Arbogast of West City, Missouri; sister, Ginger Cates of Claflin, Kansas; brother, Roger Krug of Wichita, Kansas; several nieces, nephews and numerous relatives.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park, located at 601 US Highway 80 East, Haughton, Louisiana, on Monday, 30 December 2013 at 2:30. The family will greet friends and relatives from 12:30 to 2:30.
In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests memorial donations are made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
