Randy was born to Cleveland Knight, Jr. (Jack) and Magdalane Knight (Maggie) in Shreveport on February 24, 1964. Their bright eyed cotton top boy.
Randy graduated Airline High School in 1982 and went on to earn his Baccalaureate in Nursing with honors from Northwestern State University in 1991. Randy loved nursing and had a nurturing spirit, often working in critical care. From 1992 to 1997 Randy volunteered as a reserve officer for Shreveport Police Reserve Unit. Something he and we are very proud of. He had many passions that included horses, he loved working with them. And dogs!! Oh how he loved working with dogs, even spending years training on a personal level and in training of military working dogs. Randy earned his black belt in karate, in 2011 ran a 26.2 mile race at the age of 47, took two years of professional dance training-winning a few competitions. He was the spouse of a USAF combat veteran who proudly served from 1999 to 2017. BUT his greatest achievement of all and proudest moment was March 3, 1998, when he laid eyes on the love of his life, his baby girl Rachael Cierra Knight! Randy, protective by nature and his greatest quality; gentle and compassionate, found NO GREATER JOY than being daddy to his little girl Cierra, the apple of his eye. He needed her as much as she needed him, and two peas in a pod, you could find no bond anywhere tighter than those two. His final and proudest accomplishment to date was seeing his girl graduate college this summer from SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) with a bachelor in Fine Arts, Major in Illustration. The two worked tirelessly to meet this milestone. Randy was a character who no doubt kept us all on our toes. We might even miss that about him most.
Randy was preceded in death by his father, Jack Knight. Left to cherish his legacy are his mother, and biggest cheerleader, Maggie, his beloved daughter, Cierra, and her mother Charlotte, sisters Julie and Tina, and brother Danny, and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. And cherish his memory we will. “I’m really good at trying,” he once said. And that’s okay, too, because you NEVER stopped trying.
A memorial service to celebrate this extraordinary life will be held Sunday, September 26, at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, Haughton, La. at 2 PM. The family will receive visitors from 1 o’clock until the time of service.
