Paul C. Ratcliff, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on November 05, 2023, at the age of 93. He was born on March 17, 1930, in Amite County, Mississippi to Corbet Ratcliff and Thelma Burris Ratcliff, and was the youngest of six children.
Paul's journey through life was marked by dedication, love, and service. He graduated from Hattiesburg High School in 1950, where he met the love of his life, Veneita Slade. Their union in marriage in 1951 was the beginning of a cherished relationship that lasted for 72 years.
At the age of 20, Paul answered the call to duty by joining the United States Air Force. Over the course of two decades, he valiantly served his country in the Korean War, the Cold War and the Vietnam War, until his retirement in 1971. His commitment to his fellow servicemen and his country was unwavering.
As a devout member of Broadmoor Baptist Church, Paul dedicated his time and energy to various ministries within the church. He was a member of Shreveport Joppa Lodge # 362 for more than 50 years of masonry.
In moments of leisure, Paul immersed himself in the tranquility of his rose garden and poured his creativity into intricate fretwork in his woodshop. His craftsmanship was a testament to his meticulous attention to detail and his passion for creating beauty.
Paul is survived by his sweetheart, Veneita; his daughter, Paula Bennett; three grandchildren, Brooke Calhoun, Paul Bennett (Crystal), and Jill Castillo (John); eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Emily Ratcliff Kirstein; four brothers, W.B. Ratcliff, Ned Ratcliff, Ray Ratcliff and Joe Ratcliff; son-in-law, Jay Bennett; and grandson-in-law, Kirk Calhoun.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Mary Mosely, Felicia Washington, LaToshia Jackson, and Christus Hospice for their compassion and care.
Pallbearers honoring Paul will be, Paul Bennett, John Castillo, Larry French, Slade Bennett, Tucker Weems, and Tanner Weems. Trent Morgan, Zachary SanSoucie, and Zach Calhoun will serve as honorary pallbearers.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Paul Ratcliff will be held on Wednesday, November 08, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home and Park in Haughton, Louisiana. Dr. Larry Williams of Broadmoor Baptist Church will officiate the service. The burial will immediately follow the service.
