Mr. Murphy proudly served his country in the U.S.A.F. retiring after 22 years, and then served eight years in Civil Service. He was a Master Carpenter in the Packing and Crating Division.
His hobbies included; coon hunting, raising and showing Coon Hounds and had many trophies to his credit. Plus gardening was one of his most enjoyable activities after retirement.
Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Charles Ray Murphy; two sisters, Ivy Murphy Brockett and Geneva Shaw; and three brothers, L.D., Floyd, and Earl Murphy. He is survived by his loving wife Ruth; one son, David Murphy and wife Linda; one daughter, Cathy Hansen and husband Darrell; daughter-n-law, Sue Murphy; eight grandchildren, Darrell Hansen II, Steven Hansen, Jeannie Murphy Bordelon, Staci Hansen, J.D. Murphy, Jason Hansen, Tommy Murphy and Michael Murphy; 18 great grandchildren, Brayden Golden, Kailee and Colton Bordelon, Madelyn Russum, Brittany, Taylor, Katie, Austin, Dustin, Haley, and Carrie Ann Murphy, Scott, Heather, Kristan, Colton, Jayden, Dakota Hansen, Taley Taylor, and Dakota Kellough; and four siblings, Gilbert Murphy, Ralph Murphy, Ruth Alton, Frankie Rose and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. H.B. Fuller of Memorial Baptist Church where Mr. Murphy was a member. Pastor Bill Walsworth of Restoration Fellowship Church of Elm Grove will assist.
