Michael “Mike” Joseph Rice was a US Army Veteran (Combat Medic), loving father, husband, son, brother, uncle and friend who lived across the US and in Germany throughout his life. In addition to his military career, Mike was also a skilled Phlebotomist, Surgical Technician, Sous Chef (yes, he could cook) and General Carpenter.
He was a proud member of Journey Church in Shreveport, LA and committed his life to the Lord in July 2015. Mike was a big fan of the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers Football but no one could compare to his favorite team featuring his son Jackson where he played baseball, basketball, football, and even gymnastics.
Mike is preceded in death by his father, Robert (Bob) Kennedy Rice Sr. of Boyce, LA; mother, Lori J. Fann of Oscala, FL and one brother, Robert (Bobby) Kennedy Rice, Jr. of Sulphur, LA.
He is survived by his loving wife of 8 years, Loretta Johnson Rice and son Jackson Joseph Rice, of Bossier City, LA; mother, Barbara F. Rice, of Boyce, LA; 4 sisters - Kathy Freeman, of Sweeney, TX; Brenda Hinton and husband Bennie, of Mora LA, Cheryl Hines, of Charlotte, NC; and Gayle Murrell and husband Lance, of Pineville, LA; 4 brothers - Darryl Wayne Branson, of Goldthwaite, TX; Larry Branson and wife Glenda, of Boyce, LA; Israel Johnson Jr., of Cheneyville, LA and John Louis Johnson, of Cheneyville, LA; 28 nephews/nieces, 48 great nephews/nieces, 3 great great nephews/nieces; lifelong best friends James Lott of Yakima WA, and JP Kissling of Yakima, WA and his Shreveport/Bossier City friends he was proud to call his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Mike’s memory to Journey Church, 1020 Shreveport Barksdale Hwy, Shreveport, Louisiana 71105.
