Mrs. Sayers was born February 23, 1930 in Scottsville, Kentucky to Eva and Lester Johnson. Eva and her daughters moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1941 where Mary went to school and worked prior to her meeting the love of her life, Joe Sayers, who was stationed in Indianapolis on a tour of duty with the U.S. Air Force.
Mary devoted her life to her family and God. She enjoyed volunteering at her church and helping anyone who needed assistance. She loved having everyone home to visit. She cherished every opportunity to spend time with and spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Sayers was preceded in death by her husband, Joe R. Sayers; and parents and sisters, Juanita Thomas and Jannetta Johnson. Mary is survived by her daughters, Susi Sayers and husband Dan Chambers of Bossier City, Mary Jo Sayers of Shreveport, LA; son, Stan Sayers and wife Patricia of Columbus, GA; grandchildren, Alisha Ciconte, Shane Voytko, Chad Voytko, Joe Sayers, James Sayers, Matthew Sayers, Naomie Feldmann, Rebecca Sayers and Liesl Rose; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Services to celebrate Mrs. Sayers’ life will be 2:00 P.M., Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, followed by interment in Hill Crest Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M. Wednesday evening at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home.
