Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 15, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Haughton, with Rev. Gevan Spinney and Rev. Melton Prothro officiating. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park,.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the Hill Crest Funeral Home.
Martha was born March 9, 1939 in Minden, LA; and was a 1957 graduate of Haughton High School. Everyone who knew
her, loved her. Martha was a sweet, loving, caring, and giving lady, always putting other people first. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and Nana. Her family was the light of her life.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Zack and Nora Martin; sister, Peggy Wynona Martin; and brother, Darrel Martin.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Dr. Ted P. Hughes; sons, David Martin Overby and wife Lisa of Iuka, MS; and James Mitchell Overby and wife Aleta of Ruston, LA; and a special daughter, Margaret Schoelman, and husband Steve of Georgetown, TX; step-son, Duncan Ashworth of Austin,TX; step-daughters, DeNeale Hughes York, and Allison Hughes Beard of Statesville,N.C.; sisters, Frances Cardwell of Bossier City, LA; and Bonnie Thompson and husband Joe, of Garland, TX; sisters-in-law, Beverly Martin Morgan of Bastrop, TX; Merrilee Hughes Warren and husband G.C. of Shreveport; brother-in-law, Dr. Frank B. Hughes and wife Mary of Shreveport.Grandchildren, Ashlyn Overby, Alex Overby, Anton Overby, Zach Schoelman, Stephanie Schoelman, and eight other step grandchildren. Plus many nieces and nephews that were very dear to her.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dr. Ted Warren, Al Parker, Jimmie Gibson, Mac McDaniel, Mike Walker, and Jay Collins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lawrence Henry Walker, Bo Keith, Cullen Keith, Jodi Staton, Ed King, Bill Collins, and Don Murphy.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Ted Warren and his staff, Dr. Robert Nickelson and Andrea; Dr. Raghu Nathan, Sherry, and Paul Myers, the Dorcus Sunday School Class, and Fran McDaniel. They were all special angels to us during Martha's illness.
