He and his brothers spent their days exploring the woodlands and waterways of Jackson Parish, and the hard consequences of fishing on Sundays. He joined the Air Force after high school graduation. After serving two years, he returned home to help care for a sick father. He met and married the love of his life, Rhonda Caskey, soon after in 1980. Together they raised two sons, Chris and Braedyn, and a daughter, Tiffany. He spent his life in service to his Lord, his community, and his church. Over the last 30 years, he served in various capacities, including deacon, teacher, and youth pastor at Belle Park Baptist Church.
Psalms describes the Lord as a father to the fatherless and a defender of widows. Alan manifested this attribute in his life daily as he was the hands and feet of Jesus to those around him. He spent time investing in the lives of his nieces and nephews and was considered a daddy by so many. Many years ago, God gave him a sister when Angie Benton Evans answered the call to literally give of herself to save his life. Angie’s kidney allowed him to live another eighteen years and bonded the two families for life. This precious gift not only prolonged his life but enriched it in ways that would have never been possible, including witnessing the marriage of his children and the births of his grandchildren. His grandbabies were his greatest treasures, and he lit up when the great-nieces and nephews came to visit.
He was the master of goofy shenanigans, dad jokes, booby traps, and thrifty finds. He taught his sons, grandsons, and nephews to hunt, fish, find worms, buy cars, root for the underdog, and about the love of Jesus. He taught his daughter, granddaughter, and nieces the traits a Godly husband should possess. He loved Mrs. Rhonda like Christ loved the church for 43 years and her mother and sisters almost as much. Alan and Allen shared the greatest of bromances and hunting adventures.
He is survived by his mother, Carolyn; wife, Rhonda; children, Chris and Rebekah Ferguson, Braedyn Webb, and Tiffany and Shay Robertson; grandsons, Mason, Jesse, Ethan, and Isaac; granddaughter, Madi Bay; his brothers, Billy and Lisa Ferguson, Jimmy and Jaime Ferguson, and Tim and Melany Ferguson; sisters-in-law, Cheryl and Jacky Fenn, Shelly Wilhite, Cindy Beasley and Allen Presler, Donna and Charles Massey; sister-in-love, Nettie Chase; countless nieces and nephews; and his brothers and sisters-in-Christ at Belle Park. He is preceded in death by his father, Billy Ray Ferguson; mother-in-law, Peggy Caskey Lynch; father-in-law, Charles Caskey; sister-in-law, Regina Caskey; and nephew, Shane Webb.
The most valuable gift we have is time. Most fail to take advantage of it, but Alan always did. He was never in any hurry… especially when fishing or playing Rook (ask Martha Vining).
