LP was born in Center, TX to Calistis Alphonso Pate, Jr. and Lora Marie Barnette on March 9, 1946. He grew up in Haughton, LA where he made so many lifelong friends. Larry joined the U.S. Navy in 1964 and served two tours in Vietnam. After serving his country, he returned home and began working as a welder and motorcycle mechanic. In his spare time, he loved to build fast motor cycles and cars in his favorite place, ‘The Shop’, which he built welding one pipe at a time with good friends. Larry also enjoyed stargazing, studying the universal and history. Larry has a deep relationship with our Lord and Savior and wanted all his friends to have the same.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Calistis Alphonso Pate, Jr. and Lora Marie Barnette. He is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Pate; daughter, Nickie Pate, stepson, Jamie McReynolds; stepdaughter, Melissia Dolan and numerous grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. Larry, also known as Pop, will be greatly missed by Mimi and all his children and grandchildren.
The family of Larry Pate wishes to extend a special thank you to his Visiting Angel Tonya, LifeCare Hospice, Overton Brooks VA Hospital, and to all the family and friends who have shown Larry so much love and compassion throughout his long battle with cancer until our Lord and Savior called him home.
A visitation will be held Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the memorial service to follow at 7:00 p.m. Hill Crest Funeral Home located at 601 US Hwy 80 East in Haughton, LA.
