HAUGHTON, LA - Celebration of life service will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church, Bossier City, on Friday, February 15, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. Rev. Tom Dungan will be officiating the service. The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Hill Crest Funeral Home from 6:00 till 8:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park.
He was a member of Louisiana United Methodist Conference and was a Spiritual Director of
Cross Bayou Emmaus. John enjoyed playing golf in his spare time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Helen Lavo and great-granddaughter, Kate.
John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anne; children, Susan Holeyfield, John C. Lavo and spouses; grandchildren, Lee Anne Pollitt, Carol Thomas, Whitney Fortier, Lauren Haden, Patrick Lavo and spouses and great grandchildren, Michael, Bethany, Jonathan and Eli.
John served in the USAF from 1951 – 1973. He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He began training as an Air Traffic Controller and went to OCS, followed by pilot training. John served as a Command Pilot and Flight Instructor and received the following awards and citations: Distinguished Flying Cross, two air medals, and two military meritorious service awards. After retiring from military, he entered into the ministry serving at Christ’s United Methodist; Greenwood-Bethany Charge; Love Chapel-Haughton and Brushwood United Methodist Church.
