John Edward Foster, age 72 of Shreveport, Louisiana passed away after a long battle with cancer on the early morning of August 30, 2021. John was born in Gibsland, Louisiana on July 27, 1949 to Samuel and Mabel Foster.
He graduated high school in 1968 from Minden High School. John began his career with Kansas City Southern railroad shortly after graduation. He worked there until retirement, moving up the mechanical ranks as a carman apprentice to be the Vice President and Chief Mechanical Officer.
John was married to Linda Coates on May 17, 1969 and had 3 children. He was a long-term, faithful member of Westlake Baptist Church where he served as deacon and member of several committees. John enjoyed his retirement years spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a staple at the local schools attending countless events ranging from baseball to cheer and dance competitions. Any free time he had John could be found enjoying projects and hobbies at the family land.
John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda Foster; his children John Foster and wife Ginger, Randy Foster and wife Mandy, Amanda Haskins and husband Douglas; 10 grand children and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 1 brother and 3 sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers.
The family is requesting in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to M.D. Anderson in Houston, TX. Services will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home in Haughton, Louisiana on Friday, September 3 with visitation starting at 2:00 and the service at 3:00.
