Born in Bossier City, Louisiana April 27, 1930 to parents James E. Covington, Sr. and Lottie Johnson Covington; James entered his heavenly home Sunday, July 21, 2024. He was the youngest of eight Children (Jesse, Estelle, D.Brian, Dillon, Lucille, Mae and LaVaughn), and was affectedly known as “Brother” or Uncle Brother”. His parents and siblings preceded him in death along with his wife, Anna Lou Boyd Covington and son, James Stuart Covington.
James was a descendant of Mials and Margaret (Weeks) Covington of Rockingham, North Carolina, who traveled by wagon train with their nine children in 1840 settling in the growing community of Red land, Bossier Parish. His family owned a small general store in Benton, Louisiana where they sold bacon, dry goods and candy. Growing up on a farm, James spent many nights sleeping under the stars on the porch, and riding his beloved horse, Henry. Black Bayou Lake now stands in the place of James' childhood home. He went on to graduate from Benton High School, and completed three years of college with a focus on algebra. James joined the Army Air Corp as a young man, and spent 20 years traveling the world. Upon retirement, he returned to Bossier City to build a home and a life on Black Bayou Lake.
James was known for the twinkle in his eye as well as his penchant to compliment the ladies. His faith was strong, and he prided himself on having read the Bible cover-to-cover many times. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him, but is resting triumphantly with the angels in Heaven.
Surviving him is his daughter, Judith E. Covington Holland (Ben Holland), and their children James Stephen Holland (Courtney Holland), Janet Lynne Holland Attaway (Kevin Attaway). Great Grand Dad was is also survived by his great-grandchildren Emma Attaway, James Theodore (JT) Holland, Kyleigh Attaway, Ian Attaway, and Brinsley Wiggins. James will also be remembered by a host of nieces and nephews, as well as many friends. Services for James Covington will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, July 27, 2024, in Lieu of flowers, Dad would request donations to Benton Methodist Church Attn:Souper Saturday Ministry
