Services celebrating the life of Inez Merritt will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 18, 2021 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
Inez was born January 9, 1928, to the proud parents, Sam and Viola Russell, in Cerro Gordo, Arkansas, the youngest of 10 total children.
Inez was raised in Horatio, Arkansas and soon married John David Williams and became a military wife for the next 30 years moving around quite a bit, as military families will. They settled in Bossier City and then later in Haughton, continuing to raise their girls. They were married 42 years until "Willie" passed away in December of 1990.
Later, becoming reacquainted with Darlton Merritt in 1992 when he asked to see her tomato plants. They married in 1993 until his death in January 2020.
Inez loved flowers, gardening and mowing. She was well known for being a great cook especially her chicken pot pie. But her greatest joy was her family and any friend who needed her help.
Mrs. Merritt was preceded in death by her parents, nine siblings, John David Williams, Darlton Merritt, Doug and Connie Merritt.
Mrs. Merritt is survived by: two daughters, Ina Williams Smith of San Antonio and Marilynn Knight (Craig) of Azle, Texas. Also left to cherish their fond memories of "Mamaw" are her four grandchildren, David Farr (Betsy) of Houston; Amy Jeter (Jacob) of Azle, Tx, Timothy Farr (Cecelia) of Seoul, South Korea; and Aaron Knight (Jennifer) of Lipan, Tx. Eight great grandchildren: Megan Farr, Katy Farr, Jack Farr, Paisley Jeter, Parker Jeter, Seth Farr, Sarah Farr and Henry Knight.
She is also survived by Roger Merritt (Karen) and Sheryl Merritt Culpepper (Roy) and grandchildren, Clint Morris (Sarah), Krista Merritt Boston (Gary), Jared Merritt, Amanda Merritt, Kalli Culpepper, and Jenna Culpepper; along with five great-grandchildren.
Serving as Pallbearers will be: Craig Knight, Aaron Knight, David Farr, Roy Culpepper, Jared Merritt, Clint Morris, and Joey Bailey.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Princeton, for the Vacation Bible School Fund, 1298 Princeton Rd., Princeton, LA 71067, in honor of the "VBS Cookie Lady".
