Howard spent most of his life in the Northwest Louisiana area. He went to school in Dubberly, spent time in Ringgold and Plain Dealing, before settling in Bossier City. For over 30 years he “kept the lights on” for many folks in the area as a long-time lineman, technician and manager at Bossier Rural Electric (BREMCO). After retiring from BREMCO, Howard worked as an electrician at Louisiana Downs. Howard had a passion for fishing and knew the waters of the area very well. On most any weekend you could find him and family on Bodcau, Cypress, Bistineau or Caddo hauling in the bream and white perch. Those who knew Howard knew a kind, generous and humorous man, and one who loved to dance.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Nettie and Robert, as well as sisters Marie White and Daphne Martin, and brother Leroy Pickett.
He is survived by his sister Betty Ramey; children Howard M. (Sonny) Pickett Jr. (Stacy) and Charlene Mullins (Scott); grandchildren Ian Mullins (Rachel), Natalie Pickett (Ben), Sarah Mullins Mabry (Jacob), Isabel Pickett Carter (Austin) and Jon Marshall Pickett; great-grandchildren Christian Mullins and Vander Mabry; and many loved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Aspire Physical Recovery Center in Vestavia Hills, AL for their care and support over the past several years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the American Stroke Association.
Services in his honor will begin with a Visitation beginning at 9:00 am; followed by the Funeral at 10:00 am, within the Chapel at Hill Crest Memorial, Haughton, Friday, February 16, 2024. Services will conclude with the Committal Service in the Hill Crest Cemetery afterwards.
