SHREVEPORT, LA - Herbert Warren Roberson, 86, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021. He was the son of Loyd Olen Roberson and Vera Tarkengton Roberson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Vera Roberson; brothers, Jerry Lynn Roberson and Darold Winston Roberson, and great granddaughter, Tally Lynn Boardman. He was born March 22, 1934, in Petersburg, Texas.
A native of Texas, Herb graduated from Spur High School in 1951. He played football throughout high school and farmed on family land before and after school. Herb was a true Texas cowboy. He herded cattle on a large ranch and slept out in the open with rattlesnakes. He was also a volunteer fireman. While in Spur, he developed a love for flying watching a crop duster. He then began flying lessons in a J-3 Cub, which eventually evolved into owning his own plane many years later. Herb spent most of his career as a HVAC contractor in sales, repairs, and installations.
Herbert and LaNell were married in Clovis, New Mexico on November 25, 1955. Herb was a humble and compassionate man of God. He was blessed to have been married to his beautiful bride for 65 years. He never tired of telling stories about the love of his life, LaNell. He was so proud of his family and he let them know that every day. Herb devoted his life to being a husband to LaNell and father to Lisa. He was an exceptional man who also raised her two children, Chris and Melissa.
Herb and LaNell’s greatest adventure was being a part of an air formation flying group, known as the Angels Seven. They shared many years in the blue sky with dear friends and family. Herb also enjoyed riding his motorcycles and camping in his RV.
He is survived by his wife, LaNell Hopkins Roberson; his brothers Gene Oland Roberson (Marian) of Spur, TX and Hershel Hubert Roberson (Caren) of Johnson City, TX; his daughter, Lisa Roberson McCann (Robert) of Merritt Island, FL; grandchildren, Christopher Patrick Boardman (Mary) of Broken Arrow, OK and Melissa Boardman Kinney (Matt) of Haughton, LA; great grandchildren, Hunter Boardman, Riley Wallis, Kylie Kinney, Sage Kinney, and Harper Boardman; and his great-great granddaughters, Harley Boardman and Caroline Claire Wallis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Herb knew beyond the physical man on the outside, there was a spiritual and eternal man on the inside. As believers in Christ, we know the flesh dies and is buried, but the spirit lives forever with God. We’ve been blessed with such an extraordinary man for so many years, that he is an essential part of our lives. Our heart breaks for our loss, but today, beyond our natural sorrow, there is a supernatural joy that can only come from Herb being a child of God. He had a relationship with Jesus and experienced God’s love, he was forgiven and had the promise of eternity in Heaven, and those of us left here have the reality of a future reunion. Herb Warren Roberson has gone home to his Father.
