Helen was born to Joseph and Josephine Rivers, of Zwolle, LA. She was the youngest of 5 siblings; Lilly, Myrtle, Woodrow, Gladys, and Doris.
As a military wife, Helen traveled to places such as Japan and England and several U.S. States, all while corralling 3 kids!
Helen refinished antiques and worked on tables/chairs passed down to her from her mother. She also restored an antique cash register. She was meticulous in anything she did, from painting, furniture refinishing, cooking, and grocery shopping! In the 1970s she was involved with the Court Observers.
Helen, aka “Nanny” and “Mom”, was the best cook in the world (per her children/grandchildren). She would use every pot and pan in the house and create a meal fit for royalty! She loved red birds and Elvis! She was a loyal member of Richard Cook’s Fan Club (Elvis tribute artist) and attended monthly dinners/performances. She especially enjoyed all the people associated with the fan club. Bruce and Lisa Cook were so kind to give her rides to the events. Helen enjoyed a trip to the boat(s) now and then and dining out at Chimi Vi’s.
Mom was also caretaker of her mother during her times of illness, before she passed. She also took care of her sister, Gladys. And finally, she cared for our dad “Pop” for 7 years after he suffered a stroke. She was devoted to his comfort and care. He told me once, “She knows what I need before I do!”
Those gone on to be with the Lord before her are her husband, (Ret.) Major Charles N. Dungan, and grandsons, Jason Lammons and Daniel Lammons. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Charles N. Dungan, Jr; William J. Dungan Sr. and Stacey; and Jody Lammons; grandchildren, Christine, Bill, Abby, Savannah, Christina, Sabrina; and great-grandchildren, Ryker, Ely, Mason, Karson, Rome, Emily, Brianna and Joseph.
A special thanks to Joan Bates (JJ) and Kathy Silvio for their devotion and support to Helen over the years.
Also, special thanks to Nanette Stanley and Linda Curlin.
