Harold J "Marty" Martinez passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at the NW Louisiana War Veteran's Home in Bossier City, LA. He had resided at the Veteran's Home for almost three years following the effects of ESRD, prostate cancer and a brain hemorrhage stroke and an ischemic embolism stroke. He was a lifelong resident of Haughton, LA.
Marty was born on March 28, 1946 in Napoleonville, LA. to Hilda Crochet and Harold Godfrey Martinez. He graduated from Haughton High School in 1965. He spent six years serving in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1970. Marty was an electrician, Master Plumber and belonged to the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 141 in Shreveport, LA. He currently was a life partner with Louise Renfro Rowell. This union was blessed by Father Pike Thomas in St. Jude Catholic Church in Benton, LA.
Things he enjoyed were, hunting deer, elk, trapping wild hogs, cattle farming and cutting hay. He was always ready to help a friend. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he held several leadership positions.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Magdalene Martinez, Debra Crippin and brother, Michael Martinez.
Marty is survived by his partner, Louise Rowell; sisters, Phyllis Gorman and Mary DeFrieze (John DeFrieze); daughters, Rachel Martinez Stonic (Rodney G. Turner Jr.), Rene Martinez Russell (Darin Russell) and Robin Martinez Pelias; grandsons, Derek Stonic, Jr. and Tyler Russell; granddaughters, Sierra Stonic and Jolie Pelias and great-granddaughter, Everly Stonic; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends including his brothers in The Knights of Columbus.
Services will be held to celebrate his life at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel with Father Kelby Tingle officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at HIll Crest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 am until service time.
Pallbearers will be Paul Murray, Ricky Whatley, Buddy Camp, Rodney Turner, Dwain Harris, and Darin Russell. Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Shelton, Louis St. Germain and Bud Holland.
