Gwayne Walker Denham went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 9, 2021. Named for a Knight of the Round Table- “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight” he lived a life worthy of such a moniker. He is joyfully reunited with the Love of his life, his high school sweetheart, Alberta Amason Denham, who preceded him to Heaven.
Gwayne Walker Denham was born April 17, 1933 in Bernice, Louisiana. He served our country in the United States Air Force and achieved the rank of Technical Seargent. After retiring from the Air Force, he joined the Civilian Service of the United States Government and continued to faithfully serve our country. Upon a second retirement from Federal Civilian Service, he embarked on a new career challenge- of a Bossier Parish School bus driver. Out of all the roles he had- he seemed to embrace and enjoy this role the most, watching over and caring for “his kids” as he transported them to and from schools all over Bossier Parish until he enjoyed a third and final retirement.
He and Alberta enjoyed a rich personal life of philanthropy and fellowship as members of the Royal Order of the Eastern Star and Gwayne personally was also involved heavily as a Mason and member of the El Karubah Order of the Shrine. He was Past Master and member in good standing of Hap Arnold Masonic Lodge number 457 of Bossier city, LA. He was also Past Grand Patron and member of good standing of Magnolia Chapter Number 27 of the Order of Eastern Star of Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Laura Denham; and his brothers, Bob and Bill Denham. He is survived by a sister, Laura Mooney.
He had four children: Cheryl Denise Denham and Darrell Gwayne Denham who preceded him in death. When Denise died at a relatively young age leaving her two sons behind, he adopted both Sean Christopher Denham and James Michael Denham. He loved all his children along with their spouses, Lori-Jane Hudspeth Denham and Catherine Biles Denham. But above all he loved his role as “Poppee” to his three grandchildren: David, Macy-Rain and Marjorie-Lane Denise.
Services to honor Mr. Denham will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, officiated by Bro. Billy Pierce. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park.
