Fred Brooks Meadows

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Fred Brooks Meadows, Chief Master Sergeant (Retired), passed away peacefully on April 23rd, 2015 at Grace Home in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born March 25th, 1934 in Huntsville, Alabama to George and Alma Meadows. He was part of a large family, being the youngest of five siblings. He attended Huntsville’s Joe Bradley High School. He served four years in the US Navy aboard the USS St. Paul and USS Lexington as a Gunner’s Mate. After leaving the Navy, he entered the US Air Force and had a 21 year career in aircraft maintenance. He received many awards, commendations and medals, including the Outstanding Airman of the Year award in 1968 while stationed at Lockbourne AFB, Ohio. He also received a college degree while in the military. He was a Vietnam Veteran and very proud of his service to his Country. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant.

He coached youth baseball and football, participated as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America and served as a mentor for many young men and women over a span of more than four decades. After retiring from the Air Force he was one of the first employees of Bossier Cable and oversaw the construction, hiring and maintenance of the physical plant for another 20 years. He could fix anything!

Fred B. Meadows is preceded in death by his son, Anthony (Tony) Meadows; parents, George and Alma Meadows; and brothers, Edward and Leon Meadows. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Garna; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Jennifer Meadows of Castle Pines, Colorado; two sisters, Joanne and Miriam; and the loves of his life, his grandchildren, Sarah and Jack Meadows of Castle Pines, Colorado.

A memorial service to honor Mr. Meadows will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Shreveport, LA.
