Frances graduated from Jefferson Davis high school in Houston, TX and attended Hinds Junior College in Jackson, MS. She and her husband Billy moved around quite a bit having lived in California, Texas, Wyoming, New Mexico and Mississippi until they made their home in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Frances and Billy were married 68 years and had a great time together traveling, golfing, and visiting friends and family.
Frances was notorious for somehow being able to keep track of all the various details involving their travels, business interests, and projects that ranged from thoroughbreds, antique cars, oilfield, cattle, and the general craziness of some of Billy’s brain schemes.
She was able to make and keep order out of Billy’s craziness, and she always had a good time going back and forth being the butt of each other’s jokes.
She once surprised Billy with a new bull for his herd, and paid for it with a $1000 chip from a casino.
One thing that everyone will remember from the time her children were in school, until the day of her passing, was the famous Italian Eyebrow Raise. The “eyebrow” spoke without making a sound, spoke any language, whose message was never misunderstood, and having seen it once, would be forever etched into anyone’s memory.
Frances lived her life dedicated to Billy, and beyond that, she was focused on her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Frances would always end up guiding any conversation back to a discussion of her family and descendants. She had 3 children, 10 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Frances was a competitive and spirited spades player and she played a lot live and online. If that online spades program was not working, she made sure all hands were called in to get it going with a high priority.
Frances was also a very good cook and was famous for Turkey and cornbread dressing.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Billy, and by one sister, Sophie. She is survived by her brother Jules Freund Jr. (Uncle Jake), Three children, Colleen Barefield Goodman (Keith), Bubba Barefield (Karen) & Curtis Barefield (Sarah).
