Bossier City, LA – Eunice Burks Rhodes was born in Ivan, LA on October 7, 1923, and went to reside with her Heavenly Father on July 24, 2022, at the age of 98. A celebration of her life will be held at Hillcrest Funeral Home in Haughton, LA on Monday, August 1, 2022. Visitation will be held at 1:00 pm followed by the service at 1:30, and interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery for family. Blake Lewis, Middle School Pastor at Haughton Baptist Church will be officiating at the service.
Mrs. Rhodes was a homemaker for most of her life and a resident of Haughton and Bossier City for 58 years. She was a long time member of Waller Baptist Church and was so faithful in her daily bible readings. She shared a great love for her husband and three daughters, and was a loving and giving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all she met. She was a resident of the Bloom in Bossier City, at the time of her death, and she loved the staff and all of her aids who returned that love. Her faith was very strong and she always demonstrated that faith in her actions toward others.
Mrs. Rhodes loved to cook for her family, and enjoyed canning and freezing vegetables from the garden, and making jellies and preserves. She loved to play dominos on Sunday afternoons with her husband and their three daughters.
Eunice is preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Thomas G. “Dusty” Rhodes, who she affectionately called her “Sweetie”, daughter Marie Rhodes Trotter, grandsons Gaylon Trotter and Stacy Larkin, son in-laws Landry Trotter and Robert Hood. Eunice was the last living child of her parents Luther and Allie Bell Gleason Burks of Cotton Valley, LA.
She is survived in life, by daughters Glenda Rhodes-Hood of Bossier City and Rhonda Rhodes Hensley and husband Rock Hensley of Haughton; Grandchildren; Walter L. Downey III and wife Kelly of Haughton, Lisa Trotter Wilson and husband Dan of Shreveport, LA, Glenn Maynor and wife Nicole of Haughton, Jason Downey of Haughton; great grandchildren Eric Downey, Taylor Downey Kirk, Amelia and Joseph Downey, Brandon Larkin, Emma Maynor, Landry Rivers, Paige Ramey; five great-great grandchildren and sister in-law Ellen Burks of Huntsville, TX. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and her special niece Martha Knight, who brought Mom flowers from her garden when she came to visit, and special nephew Buck Rhodes who always was so good about calling Mom.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Maynor, Walter Downey, III, Joseph Downey, Dan Wilson, Brandon Larkin, and Tommie Burks. Honorary Pallbearers will be Buck Rhodes, Billy Burks, Scotty Kirk and Eric Downey.
The family would like to thank the Staff at the Bloom and the Nurses at WK Pierremont, for their loving care.
