Earl E. Porter, Jr.

HAUGHTON, LA - A Celebration of Life service will be held for Earl Porter on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel. The service will be officiated by Rev. Calvin Hubbard, Pastor of Barksdale Baptist Church. Interment will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends on Monday, July 7, 2014 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home.

Earl passed away peacefully on July 4, 2014 at the N.W. Louisiana War Veterans Home, Bossier City, LA. He was born in Shreveport, LA on February 27, 1921 to Earl and Opal Porter. He grew up in Bossier City, LA and graduated from Bossier High School. He attended Centenary College where he received his degree in drafting. He worked for Globe Map Co. in Shreveport until he was called to serve his country during WWII. Earl served for three and one half years in the Army Air Corp stationed in England and later France. Upon returning after the war, he went to work for Civil Service, where he worked until his retirement in 1979.

He and Hope enjoyed traveling with family and friends on trips and cruises. His hobbies included fishing, reading and working his puzzles in the daily paper. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his sons and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl E. and Opal Porter and his wife, Hope Madden Porter.

He is survived by his sons, Earl Porter, III and wife Darlene of Albany, NY and John Porter and wife JoAnn of Haughton, LA. Earl is also survived by his sister, Mona Cavender of El Dorado, AR; grandchildren, Rebecca Porter Donaghey and husband Warren of Shreveport, LA, Michael Porter and wife Traci of Canisteo, NY, Ian Porter and wife Heather of Haughton, LA, Jeremiah Palumbo and wife Melissa of Cairo, NY, Samantha Palumbo of Albany, NY and great grandchildren, Cassie, Carter, Erin, Connor, Reese, Aidan, Vive, Caleb, Antigone, Felicity, Jayden, Bryce and Chloe.

Pallbearers honoring Earl will be George Etheredge, Mike Etheredge, Lewis Madden, Warren Donaghey, Joey Giovengo and Cary Kirkland. Honorary pallbearers will be Butch Madden and Gene Madden.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Fleniken and to the staff of N.W. Louisiana War Veterans Home and especially to all the nurses and CNA’s on the 4th Wing.
