Dorothy Nell Coffey Clark, 76, of Bossier City, went home to be with her Lord and “the love of her life,” Curtis O. Clark, on July 7, 2021. Dorothy “Dot” Clark was born in Coushatta, LA to Bessie Lou and Mike Coffey on November 23, 1944.
Dorothy was raised in Bossier Parish and attended school there until graduation from Bossier High School in 1962. It was on April 8, 1966 that she married the “love of her life,” Curtis Ollie Clark, and they then had one daughter.
Dorothy embraced and thrived in her new role as a cattle woman helping her husband manage North Ridge Farms in Shreveport, LA for several years. She was a member of the Louisiana CowBelles, the counterpart to the Louisiana Cattlemen’s Association.
Dorothy was always working in a “man’s world.” Whether it was saddling up for penning, working, feeding and tending to cattle, driving a tractor, or becoming the first lady weighmaster in the state of Louisiana, she was working alongside men and usually outworking them. She worked as many as six different sales in a week. She also loved to dress up to attend the Plantation Ball to show she also could still dress like a lady. All of that while holding the household together.
She loved to dig in the dirt planting flowers and a vegetable garden, canning the fruits of her labor, and serving up a great meal. She also loved gathering with friends for their Annual Super Bowl Parties, going to “honky tonks” to dance with her Curtis, or any other excuse to be with great friends.
Dorothy went on to start her own business, Plants, Etc., in Bossier City, LA. After a few years of success, she opted to relocate and open a new business, in 1989, Clark’s Hilltop Farm & Garden, in Haughton, LA. “Miss Dot,” as she was known, ran that business until handing it over to her daughter in 2003 due to declining health. During her time there she made many lasting friendships with customers and salesmen. Many will remember her smile, her laughter and her “dolled up” look with a ring on almost every finger. She thrived on sharing her knowledge to all who asked.
After her retirement she continued to do what she loved by digging in the yard and spending time with her girls, Michelle and Randi. She also enjoyed the company of her beloved feline companions, Walter and Moses.
Dorothy was preceded in death by the “love of her life,” Curtis O. Clark, by 10 short weeks. Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Michelle Corley, and husband, Todd, her precious granddaughter, Randi Corley, and everyone that had the pleasure of knowing her. A special thank you to Cindy Jones for always being there to help in any way she could.
