A celebration of life service will be held for Dr. Debra Douglas on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at First Baptist Bossier at 10:30 a.m. with visitation from 9 a.m. until service time. Pastor Brad Jurkovich will officiate.
Deb loved her family above all else; they were the beat of her heart. Her children knew she loved them and was proud of them. “Pearl,” as she was known to her grandchildren, found no greater joy than rocking her grand babies. She cherished every moment with them.
Deb loved life and lived it to the absolute fullest. Her interests were cooking, baking, cruising, and laughing with those she loved. She was a true southern woman in every sense of the word. Her home was always open. She especially loved traveling and seeing the sights with Paul. Antarctica and Australia were the next two stops on their bucket list. We know she is overjoyed with her new travel plans that landed her at the feet of Jesus on September 15, 2017.
Debra Morrison Douglas was born to Roscoe and Bobby Morrison on April 5, 1958. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 39 years, Paul; her son, Jared Douglas and wife Emily; her daughter, Katie Chavis and husband Jacob; grandchildren, Caroline and Lincoln Douglas and LucyKate Chavis, as well as another Chavis baby on the way; her sisters, Lynn Harris and husband Mike; Susie Freeman and husband Randy; and Cathy Christain and husband Daryl.
Deb was a woman of purpose who ministered and loved the women of Shreveport/Bossier and those around the globe. She held both a Masters of Arts degree in Christian education and a Doctorate of Education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Her passion for encouraging and equipping women opened doors for her to serve as both the Director of Biblical Counseling at First Baptist Bossier as well as being a trainer for LifeWay’s women’s ministry and a LifeWay Ministry Multiplier. Deb worked faithfully with Purchased, a community wide ministry to sex trade workers and victims of human trafficking. She was also a conference speaker, strategic planning consultant, freelance writer, and contributed to Transformed Lives: Taking Women’s Ministry to the Next Level.
Deb will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Only Heaven knows how many lives she impacted for God's Kingdom. She has now heard the words “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Enjoy your forever home Pearl; we look forward to seeing you again.
