Funeral services for David L. Miller, Sr., will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home Haughton, LA, officiated by friend and Pastor, Holly Berry, with Rev. Rene' Moradel, assisting. Interment will follow at Fillmore Cemetery Haughton, LA. The family will receive friends at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home from 5-7 PM Tuesday, November 23rd.
David was born in Concord, TN, on June 21, 1935, and passed away November 16, 2021, in Shreveport, LA.
David retired from the United States Air Force after serving his country for over 20 years. He then went to work for the Town of Haughton, LA, as their first Police Officer and Chief. David later worked for the Bossier Parish School Board as a Security Officer and retired after 34 years.
David was a member of the Masonic Order Haughton, LA, #95, Scottish Rite and Shriners. He was a Life Member of the Air Force Security Police Association, Vietnam Security Police Association, Safeside Association, Non-Commissioned Officer Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Bossier Sherriff’s Posse.
David enjoyed fishing and working in his garden. He loved all his family, especially his grandchildren and his great grandchildren and would do anything for them.
David was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 52 years, Sidney Marie Smith Miller, and her parents, Bryan and Aline Smith, of Haughton, LA; his parents, John and Fern Miller, his brothers, Clifford, Joe, and John Miller Jr., all of Knoxville, TN. He is survived by his sisters, Jane Baker, Patsy M. Westbrook, and Rosa Brewer of Knoxville, TN, and brother, Tony Miller and wife Cecilia of Lutz, FL, and their families.
David is also survived by his lovely family: daughter, Debra, of Haughton, LA; sons David, Jr. and wife, Cathy, of Bossier City, LA, and Bryan and wife, Vickie, of Frisco, TX; Grandchildren David and wife, Britney, of Bossier City, LA; Michael and wife, Brittany, of Haughton, LA; Alexis and Nicholas of Frisco, TX, as well as Great Grandchildren Brooklynn and Sidney of Bossier City, LA, and Trinity and Grayson of Haughton, LA.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Lynn Austin, Larry Deen, Danny Dison, Jap Gullett, Tommy Lewis, D.C. Machen, and members of the Ark-La-Tex Chapter of the Air Force Security Forces Association.
