Services for David Lee Maness, 94, will be held at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, Blanchard Chapel, Friday, December 13, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. Officiating the service will be Bro. Clay Fuqua and Bro. Dale Sauls, of First Baptist Blanchard. Private interment will follow in Memorial Gardens North, Blanchard.
Mr. Maness passed away December 6, 2024, at his home in Blanchard. He was born July 10, 1930, in Jackson, TN to parents, Loice Vergel Maness and Anna Bishop Maness. Of David’s nine siblings, only four remain.
Mr. Maness served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a B-29 Master Mechanic. He then retired after thirty plus years of employment from UOP as their Payroll Specialist and later assisted in restoring historical planes at Barksdale AFB.
David had a wonderful sense of humor and wit along with being very sharp. He was a practical jokester, a big conversationalist, and enjoyed a really good Cuban cigar whenever he could get his hands on one. He loved all animals, was great with wild animals, had the ability to break wild horses, and was known to be a “squirrel whisperer.”
Mr. Maness’s faith was very important to him, his children, and others. He loved his church family at First Baptist Blanchard and served as Deacon for many years. David never bragged about helping others, never met a stranger, and the neighborhood children loved him.
Mr. Maness is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Yvonne; brother, Billy Reeves Seddens; son-in-law, Earl Odom; parents; along with one sister and three additional brothers. He is survived by his son, David L. Maness, Jr. (Linda); daughters, Rebecca S. Todd (Jerry), and Sherry Odom; sister, Marjorie Cocke (James Bruce); three brothers, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to Alena and Rudy of Gentiva Hospice, social workers Elke and Christy, along with their church family and friends.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in honor of Mr. Maness to St. Jude, Tunnel 2 Towers, or to the charity of choice.
