My condolences to the family. I met Mr. Gunn a few years back at his shop, he customized quite a few pairs of my boots. I would show him an idea and he did a great job for me. I took time to appreciate his art of being a cobbler and wish I would’ve met him sooner.  He gave me a hands on lesson on his big sole stitching machine once. He also showed me how to do some of my own boot tear apart and even gifted me an old iron boot repair stand,  He joked with me that he was going to sell me his shop when he retired, but I said to him , Mr. Gunn  I could never do what you do. One day he told me he enjoyed a good cup Luzianne coffee but he couldn’t find any around town, I work down south so the next week on my way home I stopped and bought him all the bags of Luzianne coffee the grocery store had in his favorite roast, they only had like four pounds. He sure lit up when I stopped in and gave it to him. I will always remember him, he was a good man. R.I.P my friend. Louie Solano

To Gail and Kacy:   I am sorry for your loss.  David was a real fighter when it came to his cancer.  He was the best cowboy(uniform) boot repair person I had the opportunity to know.  He also re-built two saddles for me once I retired from the Caddo Sheriff's office.  He and the Crew at Riser's Barber Shop were a blast to be around.  R.I.P. my friend. My heart pours out to Gail and family. David was one of the original good guys. Immediatly a friend from the first conversation. Knowledgeable and smart on just about anything cars, passion for lake time and family values is just one of my favorite memories of him. He will definitely be missed by all. Fly high to someone, I'm so greatful to call my friend. Give em a hard time up there till we meet again.  

I am sorry to hear about David's passing.  I enjoyed visiting with him at the store, where I had been a customer for years.  He was always interesting to talk to.  

I first met David years ago when I was stationed at Barksdale AFB.  I bought my military low-quarters to him for repairs and to help me keep them in tip-top shape, along with my combat boots.  We didn't have camouflage back then!  I stayed in the area and married Jerry, a Native American from the Ojibwe/Chippewa tribe.  As we made Native American regalia for dancers, David would dye our leather for belts, etc., to match their outfits.  There were many happy dancers out there when they saw David's work.  David, you will be so very missed.  Such a kind, generous man who was so positive, including speaking and encouraging me when I was dealing with Jerry's health issues.  Thank you for everything you did for Jerry and myself.  To Gail and family:  you are in my thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.   I am so sorry for your tremendous loss.

My wife and I met David through two very dear to our heart friends Ricky and Marian Welton back in 1992 or so at quail creek apts and he was always a soft spoken very nice person and good friend! He was one of my friends that took the time out of his day to call me and give me comfort the time I came down with cancer myself 3 years ago and for that I put him in that certain spot in my heart! God bless all of his family members! And give them the comfort to try and ease the pain of their loss please lord🙏🙏!AMEN!

A GREAT Friend we had some GREAT Times Growing up, So many Memories, I can still smell the Fragerance of his Dad's Shoe Shop there in Mansfield Those Days were and are Precious to me, Till we Meet again Thanks for being my Friend, Wish I could be there. Billy Spears Mansfield, La.

Gail this hits me hard. David was a best friend to everyone just after meeting him for the 1st time.  Our friendship grew so much these last few years. To when you find someone that has that same sense of humour that I do and is quick with a funny witty joke. He has left his mark down her on earth. Knowing he's in heaven getting a car show started up going for God.
