BOSSIER CITY, LA – Carrie Lou Holmes, age 77, born July 7, 1933, in Tylertown, MS took her heavenly flight to be with her husband, Tom, and her Lord Jesus Christ on December 10, 2010. She spent many years with cancer, Parkinson’s and diabetes, but continued to be faithful as possible to her church, Koran Baptist, where she and her husband were members for 40 years. Visitation will be 5 pm to 8 pm on Friday December 17, 2010, at Hill Crest Funeral Home in Haughton. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, December 18, 2010, at Koran Baptist Church in Haughton with Rev. George Rogers officiating and Rev. Don Cochran assisting. Interment will follow immediately at Hill Crest Memorial Park Cemetery.
Tom and Carrie were married for 55 years and lived in different locations because Tom was in the Air Force. The last 41 years of her life were spent in Bossier. Carrie was a member of Koran Baptist Church and served her Lord there as Sunday School Teacher, WMU Director, Choir member, and a big supporter of missions.
Carrie was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Tom, and her parents, Webb and Vera Mae Holmes of Tylertown, MS.
She is survived by her loving family: her three sons – Thomas C. Holmes, Jr. and wife, Helen of Panama City, FL, Paul E. Holmes and wife Tammie of Haughton, LA, and Keith A. Holmes and wife Gail of Baton Rouge, LA. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren who were her true joy; Robert, Carolyn, Anna, Jonathan, and David Holmes of Panama City, FL; Nicole, Brandon and Colby Holmes of Haughton, LA; and Taylor Holmes and wife Irina of Baton Rouge, LA, Emily, Amy, Daniel and Claire Holmes of Baton Rouge, LA, her close cousin and life long friend, Francis Rushing and husband Lyndel of Tylertown, MS and many other cousins and family friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons; Robert, Jonathan, David, Brandon, Colby, Taylor and Daniel Holmes.
The family would like to express their appreciation to her loving and faithful caregivers, Ann Cepress, Lillie Bridges, and Anita Marshall who were there, selflessly giving of themselves to meet her needs. Also much appreciation is given to the Schumpert Hospice program for their service and to Dr. Ethan Allen Webb for his service as her doctor for many years.
Carrie’s favorite Bible verse was, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusted in thee.” Isaiah 26:3
