Bobby Lewis Burney, age 86, current resident of Bossier City, Louisiana formerly of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023. He was born on March, 14, 1937 in Vivian, Louisiana to the late Lewis and Bobbie Burney.
Bobby Burney was born in Vivian, Louisiana and spent his early childhood there. His family later moved to Refugio, Texas where he lived until joining the Air Force in 1956. After serving overseas he was stationed at Bartlesville Oklahoma, where he met the love of his life, Velda. They were happily married for 64 years and were always at each other’s side. Together, Bobby and Velda taught their 2 sons to have a love for Christ, how to love their wives and family, have a strong work ethic and to enjoy the life God has given all of us. Bobby was a member of UA Local 141 as a plumber for 40 years. He was known as a true craftsman in his trade. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing and golfing in years past, although those who played with him would tell you golf also aggravated him! He was proud of his sons, proud of his grandchildren but most of all would tell you Velda was everything to him. Those who knew him best would tell you he had a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit. He has been a member of Cypress Baptist Church where he and Velda have been active in the senior adult group for over 7 years.
Bobby was preceded in passing by his parents: Lewis Ivin Burney and Bobbie Marie McCullough Burney; one sister, Charlotte Brock; one grandson, Steven Burney; and one great-grandson, Cristian Navarro.
Left to cherish Bobby's wonderful memories will be his beloved wife, Velda Maxine; two sons: Greg Lewis Burney and wife Therese, Damon Ray Burney and wife Karen; five grandchildren: Chief Warrant Officer Caleb Burney and wife Cassy, Dr. Allison Burney Hamner and husband Jake, Dr. Krista Burney Mills and husband Ryan, Maureen Navarro and husband Eddy, Cory Morton; two great-grandsons, Cayden Burney, and William Navarro; nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
A Memorial service will be held at graveside on the grounds of the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 7970 Mike Clark Road, Keithville, Louisiana 71047 and will be scheduled at a later date.
