I was truly saddened to hear about the passing of Barbara Jo (Mrs. Smith) and my heartfelt condolences go out to Shelley and the rest of her family. 

In the late 1980’s,  Airline High School needed a tennis coach and Mrs. Smith was kind enough to volunteer to coach the team along with her daughter Shelley, who was also a member.  She helped organize and run practices, scheduled matches with other area high schools and was a calming and positive presence around the tennis court to a bunch of high school tennis players made up of several different personalities. 

I was one of those players who at the time was caught up in my own teenage angst and sometimes overly competitive court behavior that I didn’t realize how lucky we were to have her around.

Now, as a 51 year old man, I realize what a sweet and caring person she was to spend her personal time to coach the team and the patience it must of took to put up with me and the rest of the boys and girls during our high school years. 

I remember Mrs. Smith as a very nice and kind person who always seemed to be in a good mood and I would like to say now what I probably never said then and that is “thank you”.

We so loved Ralph and Barbara and  will always carry the memories of Thursday night visitations. Barbara was a lovely woman who loved her Ralph and her family more than anything. Rest in peace dear friend until we meet again.

I am sad to hear the news of Barbara's passing. We grew up together and our families were friends. I haven't seen her in many years, but I remember her as a sweet, beautiful and kind young woman. My sincere condolences to the family.

Barbara was a Precious Soul, Beautiful inside and out. She had many talents, she used her musical talent to bring honor and Glory to our LORD AND SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST. OH What sweet memories I hold of our times together at Forest Hills Baptist Church in Florence, Al. Her sweet husband Ralph, served as a deacon. My deepest condolences go to Shelley, DJ, Riley, Sydney and Coleman. Also to her beautiful Sister, Carolyn. Fly HIGH Sweet Angel, We will see you again Sweet girl.

I miss you already Barbara, but am left with wonderful memories of parties, poems, cards when I was so sick, laughter, and most important of all, prayers. I will miss a)l of these things but with a smile. You are loved always. Toni
