Patrick Jay Downs went to be with our Lord July 20, 2014 after a long hard-fought battle with cancer. Pat was born at Saint Albans navy base hospital on Long Island, NY while his dad was stationed in the Navy. Pat was the older of two children. Pat was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Marie (Spence) Downs in 1993; younger brother in 2002 and father, Dr. James Edgar Downs, in 2006. Pat is survived by his loving wife, Charito Caballero Downs whom has walked down the road of life with him for 21 years since they were married June 2, 1992 in Cebu City, Philippines. Also surviving Pat is an uncle, Julius A. Spence, age 99 and a cousin, Dr. Jane Catteron and her husband, Dr. Zack Catteron and their two children and grandchildren. Pat liked to collect antiques and historical objects or anything having to do with history. Pat, for many years, also enjoyed working on family history and learning about his ancestors, He liked quiet walks in the mountains, forests and seeing the clear streams. This was his church away from church for God was near to him there. In life, Pat was an industrial electrician and worked at rebuilding underground mining equipment; reconstructing the electrical system and, at one time, was considered the best in the three state area. Patrick was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Pineville, KY for over 31 years of which he dearly loved. The family will receive friends at Coffey Funeral Home in Harrogate from 6-8PM Wed. July 23, 2014. A mass of celebration of Pat’s life will be at 11:00AM Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Pineville, Ky. with a graveside funeral mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church cemetery in Dannemora, NY Monday, July 28, 2014 at 11 AM.
